Our Process

As part of our continuous improvement efforts, our client interaction is designed to follow a structured process. This insures that communication is complete, timely and accurate so that we all get to the finish line together and that you are delighted with the results.

Discovery:

In this phase we gather as much information possible about precisely what you are looking for. Often in the discovery process, the client realizes that his/her vision isn't fully developed. The discovery process helps clarify the desired outcome. This step may be quick or extensive depending on the nature of the work but it builds a critical foundation for successful project completion.

Design:

In this phase we take the knowledge gained in the discovery phase and begin transforming it into tangible drawings, bills of material and operations, from which we can create schedules and budgets.

Execution:

Based on accepted costs, schedules and/or prototypes, we execute the agreed upon design. This could be a one off product or prototype, a small production run or a large scale outsource to an offshore manufacturer.

Support:

This phase can include a number of things such as warranty support, redesign, installation and/or maintenance depending on the situation.

History

Big J was founded in 1979 by Gary Johnson, former Governor of New Mexico. It began as a general contracting company and in 1989 began working with the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer which as a large facility in the Albuquerque area.

The plant had a small fabrication unit which the client sold to Big J. For a number of years, the division has acted as a dedicated fabricator for the client. In 1999, Big J was purchased by Dick Teater. Dick brought to Big J a distinguished career in international large-scale industrial construction. Under Dick's leadership, Big J has growing into a very sophisticated mechanical contractor working in high tech, food processing, power generation, industrial construction and plant support.

The Leadership Team at Big J determined to grow the Fabrication Division and hired Kyle Kroening to lead the effort. Kyle's long history in manufacturing, plant management, offshore sourcing, Lean Manufacturing and process improvement has been the right person to move the Fabrication Division to the next level.

Big J Fabrication has the ability to partner with its clients and tool up as needed to provide a wide variety of fabrication services. The company's roots in mechanical construction gives the Fabrication Division the ability to provide installation and plant support as well as just fabrication.
